Wedding Dress Blog Tour

Dum Dum DumDum... sing along... it's Wedding Day...
See us on our wedding day...

Ok to the dress...

Here she is...

Well I saw this over at Shashers Life and had to join in because I love to reminisce about my wedding day.. and my anniversary is coming up in less than a month :::squeee::: For those of you "long timers" I squee about my wedding day still because it's only been 2 years... so technically we're still kind of "newlyweds"... ok maybe not so newly-wedy but our shiney wedding memories aren't clouded over with too much dust yet mmkay.

So why have I kept it? Well because the dang thing's still brand new pretty much! But here's a little secret for you guys, it has still not been drycleaned or professionally packaged since the wedding day... omgosh I NEED to do that... it's still happily hanging in the Madre's guest closet and has been since she drove it down from the mountains while we were on our honeymoon.

Will I sell it? No way Jose! Do you know how expensive that baby was?? Ok but in all honesty, I'd never sell it purely for sentimental purposes and also for the thought that my future daughter *may* have an interest in wearing it for her own wedding. I feel like I picked a very classic romantic dress and it's not too trendy so that she shouldn't gasp with jaw on the floor when I mention that she could wear it. I can see it now,  "ugh YUCK mom!" (similarly to what I said to my own mother) but a girl can dream right?

So I leave you with my favorite pictures of the day... me and my dress... and my new hubby... what a wonderful day it was!!

Now head on over to Shashers Life and link up your own!

How to make an asshat out of yourself publicly, score 1 for team SAHM!

I found this article via another momma friend and I thought it was so poignant that I had to re-post it. It comes as a question and answer column from Carolyn Hax of the Washington Post. Essentially a single kidless friend person asking what stay at home moms do all day long... and how staying home with kids could possibly be so exhausting and leave you with no time to indulge said single kidless friend person...

Yea... trust me I was thinking the SAME thing. I would've responded pretty easily with a short and sweet version beginning with the word eff and ending with the word you... but Carolyn said it much better with much bigger grown up words and I applaud her. I couldn't have kept the same composure.

Dear Carolyn:
Best friend has child. Her: exhausted, busy, no time for self, no time for me, etc. Me (no kids): Wow. Sorry. What'd you do today? Her: Park, play group . . .

Okay. I've done Internet searches, I've talked to parents. I don't get it. What do stay-at-home moms do all day? Please no lists of library, grocery store, dry cleaners . . . I do all those things, too, and I don't do them EVERY DAY. I guess what I'm asking is: What is a typical day and why don't moms have time for a call or e-mail? I work and am away from home nine hours a day (plus a few late work events) and I manage to get it all done. I'm feeling like the kid is an excuse to relax and enjoy -- not a bad thing at all -- but if so, why won't my friend tell me the truth? Is this a peeing contest ("My life is so much harder than yours")? What's the deal? I've got friends with and without kids and all us child-free folks get the same story and have the same questions.

      Tacoma, Wash.

Relax and enjoy. You're funny.
Or you're lying about having friends with kids.
Or you're taking them at their word that they actually have kids, because you haven't personally been in the same room with them.

Internet searches?

I keep wavering between giving you a straight answer and giving my forehead some keyboard. To claim you want to understand, while in the same breath implying that the only logical conclusions are that your mom-friends are either lying or competing with you, is disingenuous indeed.

So, since it's validation you seem to want, the real answer is what you get. In list form. When you have young kids, your typical day is: constant attention, from getting them out of bed, fed, clean, dressed; to keeping them out of harm's way; to answering their coos, cries, questions; to having two arms and carrying one kid, one set of car keys, and supplies for even the quickest trips, including the latest-to-be-declared-essential piece of molded plastic gear; to keeping them from unshelving books at the library; to enforcing rest times; to staying one step ahead of them lest they get too hungry, tired or bored, any one of which produces the kind of checkout-line screaming that gets the checkout line shaking its head.

It's needing 45 minutes to do what takes others 15.

It's constant vigilance, constant touch, constant use of your voice, constant relegation of your needs to the second tier.

It's constant scrutiny and second-guessing from family and friends, well-meaning and otherwise. It's resisting constant temptation to seek short-term relief at everyone's long-term expense.

It's doing all this while concurrently teaching virtually everything -- language, manners, safety, resourcefulness, discipline, curiosity, creativity. Empathy. Everything.

It's also a choice, yes. And a joy. But if you spent all day, every day, with this brand of joy, and then, when you got your first 10 minutes to yourself, wanted to be alone with your thoughts instead of calling a good friend, a good friend wouldn't judge you, complain about you to mutual friends, or marvel how much more productively she uses her time. Either make a sincere effort to understand or keep your snit to yourself.

Can I get a collective round of applause for Carolyn please! Thank you very much for enlightening this dim wit and lord help her when she has a brood of her own...

Giveaway Week: Happy Baby & Yo Baby

It's Giveaway Week here!! The last in our gifting Trifecta is for Happy Baby organic baby food and Yo Baby.

Now, as some of you know, we are a pretty strict organic family in food department these days. I mean who would go to the trouble of owning backyard chickens just to get fresh eggs if they weren't serious! So it's no exception in the baby food department. I have proclaimed that I will make HL's baby food but I have no problem defecting to the Happy Baby line of organic baby food for those busy weeks or road trips and days out that I can't be near the food processor.

A little bit about Happy Baby, the short and sweet of it... their food is 100% natural and organic. There's no salt, modified starches, refined sugars, artificial fillers flavors or colors, no preservatives. And for all of you ALLERGY MOMS out there, they are NUT and DAIRY FREE!! But the real test is if your little one will actually eat this stuff... let me assure you, it went down like candy! There were no preferences, he liked them ALL. The puffs and melts are great for on the go as well as the food pouches, easy to grab and throw in the diaper bag.

Let me tell you what Happy Baby and Yo Baby are offering to one of you lucky readers. You will get the chance to try their ENTIRE line of organic baby food!! You will get their Happy Baby meal pouches, Happy Bellies cereal with DHA and Probiotics, Happy Baby Puffs finger foods, Happy Melts organic yogurt snacks, Happy Bites kids meals, Happy Baby frozen organic baby meals, and Yo Baby organic milk yogurt snacks!

Not only do you get all of this awesome food but you'll also get a recipe book from Happy Baby, a nutrition guide co-authored by Dr. Sears, and an Eric Carle growth chart!

I told you it was a lot! And you will love this stuff!

Giveaway Week: Sassy Stork Baby Carrier Cover

Welcome to Giveaway Week! Up for grabs this week are great products from Wubbanub, Sassy Stork, and Happy Baby! Open until May 26

I was stumbling around Etsy and came across Sassy Stork's Baby Carrier Covers. Let me be the first to tell you how awesome they are!!! If you have a used carrier or outdated print or just like to accessorize (who doesn't) these are perfect! We just so happen to have a hand-me-down Baby Bjorn so this is perfect for us to spruce up our old one. Not to mention if we end up having a girl next, no need to buy another carrier just get a cover full of pink and lace!

The particular cover I am reviewing today has a cool retro green and teal print. The inside is a nice and soft chocolate minky and the best part is that you can reverse the two. I was seriously giddy when I saw these and after seeing how easy it was to slip on and off I'm going to be purchasing a few for sure because I'm one of those girls that can never make up her mind. I redecorate the house easily every 3 years, I paint new colors, I dye my hair completely different and whack it off every 6 months or so... And I own about 65 swimsuits because I always like to have a new one (or two) every year. So yea I will need a few of these covers to accessorize.

I can't tell you how many compliments I got while wearing it out in public, the great thing about a customized print is that it isn't something you see on every shelf at Babies R Us so people want to know where you got it!

So you want your own right?! Yea I know. Ok well you guys can win the same print pictured here, the cool retro reversible print. And it's easy peasy....

How To Enter

Mandatory: Head on over and visit Sassy Stork and see the other fantabulous products she has, ummm like her Carseat Covers which I drool over.... and tell me which product is your fave! Come back and leave me a comment on your favorite product.

Giveaway Week: Wubbanub

Welcome to the giveaway week, it's going to be a good one! 3 giveaways this week for Wubbanub, Sassy Stork, and Happy Baby! Open until May 26

The Wub is by far one of the greatest baby inventions and tops my list of must haves six months running now. We got HL his first red dog Wubbanub when he was about 2 months old and have since added the monkey to our collection. We do NOT leave the house without it and it is the key to a good night's sleep for us. The stuffed animal has a little more weight and bulk to it than the pacifier alone and therefore it stays in their mouth better, no spitting it out constantly anymore. The other great thing about it is that since it is larger than the pacifier they can grab a hold of it and attempt to get it back in their own mouth without your assistance! Trust me, it's awesome, no further review needed!

So up for grabs is the adorable red dog Wub just like the first one we got for HL.

Music Monday: Simple Man -Lynyrd Skynrd

Great message from some GREAT oldies for my little man...

Mama told me when I was young

Come sit beside me, my only son
And listen closely to what I say
And if you do this it'll help you some sunny day
Oh, take your time don't live too fast
Troubles will come and they will pass
Go find a woman you'll find love
And don't forget son there is someone up above

And be a simple kind of man
Be something you love and understand
Baby be a simple kind of man
Oh, won't you do this for me son if you can?

Forget your lust for the rich man's gold
All that you need is in your soul
And you can do this, oh baby, if you try
All that I want for you my son is to be satisfied
And be a simple kind of man
Be something you love and understand
Baby be a simple kind of man
Oh, won't you do this for me son if you can? Oh yes, I will
Boy, don't you worry you'll find yourself
Follow your heart and nothing else
And you can do this, oh baby, if you try
All that I want for you my son is to be satisfied
And be a simple kind of man
Be something you love and understand
Baby be a simple kind of man
Oh, won't you do this for me son if you can? Read more!

From Frat Parties to Pampers... memoirs of a past life

Thank you in advance to all of my friends for the outrageous photos to choose from for this post... brings back lots of good memories. And I take NO responsibility for any embarrassment that comes from plastering your faces on here with me.

So many friends joke about how all of their friends are married or getting pregnant and they're just getting drunk (thank you to the latest Facebook page gaining popularity). It's funny to think about what I call my "past life" and my current life. Wow... all of you old friends can testify to my shananigans in high school and college. I was having the time of my life, literally, at least the time of THAT life. I fully enjoyed my carefree youth, I could hang with the best of them, I was the life of the party! We all know the lyrics..

"That party last night was awfully crazy I wish we taped it!
I danced my ass off and had this one girl completely naked
Drink my beer and smoke my weed,
but my good friends is all I need
Pass out at 3, wake up at 10, go out to eat then do it again
Man I love college..."

I'm sure fellow classmates and friends see the pictures of my wedding, pregnancy, and baby and go uhhh WHAA?? Time out! SHE is married with a kid now, NO WAY! Shocking I know. But I can't blame them, it's like meeting someone with multiple personalities, there's a major disconnect from the person you thought you were going to get and the one that stands before you.

Now I think that enjoying those years is key to being a well rounded individual. If nothing else it will give my kid some ridiculous stories to laugh about. Like the time I came home drunk at 2:00am and woke up the whole house while fixing myself some food only to dump my plate of spaghetti face down on the white carpet on my way to my room..... sorry Dad.... Or the time that I sat "detained" in the living room by the local police department after inviting my friends over to partake in the parents liquor cabinet and then go for a jaunt around the town with older boys... sorry Mom.... And I'll get to tell my son that no matter what he does as a stupid teenager there's nothing he could do that I haven't been there and done before. Trust me... there's NOTHING!

I'm thankful to have lived it, I had a blast, had my fair share and then some, and when I met my husband it was definitely time to move on. I was ready to say goodbye to that lifestyle.

I wish I could convey to every one of those old friends still "living the dream" how there is so much more to life than keggers, getting stoned, and watching the sun come up every night. So much more... To experience love, to watch the man of your dreams bend down on one knee and ask you to spend eternity with him, to have your Dad wipe tears from his eyes, take your trembling arm, kiss you on the cheek and say "let's do this" as he walks you down the aisle, to see the look in your family's eyes when you tell them that there will be a new addition soon, to bring your child into the world and realize how strong you are as a person, to witness a child discover the awesomeness of life. A night of booze and dancing pales in comparison to what the rest of life holds....  you can't imagine how much more there is. THIS is what life is really about, this is what enriches the soul, these are the memories you will leave when it's your time to walk to the other side, not the frat parties.

I wish I could bottle up these feelings and give it to them, and I wish for all them to experience this when they realize that it's time to move on. When it's right for them...

I happily put away my past life, wrapped it up with memories of good times and hung it on a shelf. Now is when life really begins...

I'm still the life of the party, but the parties these days have a little less beer and little more apple juice. And I still watch the sun come up.... while I'm changing a diaper.

My computers (yes computerS, we have 4) aren't working worth a damn. All 4 are deciding to have melt downs simultaneously... joy... So I'm in the office on the desktop and would ya looky what I just found on the computer here...

Uh huh, you guessed it, yours truly here at the impressionable age of 3! Look at all that HAIR, that took bags and bags of sponge rollers and Dippidy Doo hair gel folks. A Newborn's Conversation With God

(Author Unkown)

A baby asked God, "They tell me you are sending me to earth
tomorrow, but how am I going to live there being so small and
helpless?"

God said,
"Your angel will be waiting for you and will take care of you."

The child further inquired,
"But tell me, here in heaven I don't have to do anything but sing
and smile to be happy."

God said,
"Your angel will sing for you and will also smile for you.
And you will feel your angel's love and be very happy."

Again the child asked,
"And how am I going to be able to understand when people talk to me
if I don't know the language?"

God said,
"Your angel will tell you the most beautiful and sweet words you
will ever hear, and with much patience and care, your angel will
teach you how to speak."

"And what am I going to do when I want to talk to you?"

God said,
"Your angel will place your hands together and will teach you how
to pray."

"Who will protect me?"

God said,
"Your angel will defend you even if it means risking its life."

"But I will always be sad because I will not see you anymore."

God said,
"Your angel will always talk to you about Me and will teach you the
way to come back to Me, even though I will always be next to you."

At that moment there was much peace in Heaven, but voices from
Earth could be heard and the child hurriedly asked, "God, if I am to
leave now, please tell me my angel's name."

God said,
"You will simply call her, "Mom." Read more!

Happy half a year HL!!

Dear HL,

A half a year...

180 days

4320 hours

259,200 minutes

15,552,000 seconds

since I laid my eyes on you for the first time

since my heart grew 2 fold with the words "He's HERE!"

since I added Mom to my official titles

since I realized the power of true love

since I fell in love with my husband all over again

since I smiled at my 5 pound miracle

since I said hello to my new life as your mom...

I love you HL, you are the most amazing thing that has ever happened to me, you are my true sense of joy and my inspiration to be a better person. You are the reason I wake up every morning with a smile on my face. You've taught me to love more than I thought I could and have given me a new purpose in life. I love you to the moon and back precious child and I couldn't imagine my life without you in it... these have been the best 6 months of my life...

5 months has come and gone...

The little dude is now a half a year old, where has the time gone?? So what's been happening this month, well we have a solid food eating, almost unassisted sitting, cooing and yelling, highchair using, size 3 diaper wearing absolutely drop dead gorgeous baby boy who can stand all by himself breifly, that's all! Yea, a LOT has happened recently, his growth and development has jumped to warp speed it seems like.

I have a feeling that he will skip the whole crawling idea and just get up and start running around the house because he loves to stand and jump and pretty much despises being on the ground or on his tummy, he could care less about rolling over. He is extremely tactile and is constantly touching and scratching at things to feel the different textures. When you lay him down on the changing table he immediately brushes the wall with his hands, you set him in the Boppy and he scratches at the fabric, he scratches at his carseat seatbelt and has actually done it so much that he undid the buckle!

He has finally discovered his fur siblings and thinks they're pretty hilarious. He and Diesel are best buddies and Diesel will hang around long enough for him to grab a handful of hair and attempt to eat his face. The dogs enjoy lapping up his projectile puke throughout the day... yea.... gross.... trust me I know!

Of course everything goes in the mouth now, and hands are still a big favorite to nom on.

Solid foods are a big hit! We've tried squash, peas, green beans, sweet potatoes, bananas, and applesauce and he hasn't had a single preference to any which is a great thing. He must take after his mom, not picky about food just likes to EAT :)

Diaper rash is still an every day struggle... we're not winning the battle yet damnit!

And he's just getting bigger and bigger and BIGGER... I can't imagine how I'm going to carry him in the carseat for much longer until he reaches 20 lbs... I feel like I'm constantly hauling around bags of concrete!

It's amazing this stage in life, they learn things so quickly and change so much, you blink once and you miss a ton. So we're just enjoying this time together and taking TONS of pictures. Read more!

Music Monday- Free Fallin John Mayer

I heard this song this weekend having lunch out on a restaurant patio in the beautiful Colorado sunshine. I was drinking a nice cold beer enjoying the day when it came on and I stared over at my son and immediately started crying... I looked at my husband and told him that I can't believe how big he's getting... so fast... I sat and watched him as the tears fell and couldn't believe that this was my life now... I have a child, my life is 100% different than it was the day before he was born, it's a one way train, and what a beautiful ride...

I feel like I'm free fallin through life these days, like it's going by so fast while I stand still watching it all go on around me... everyone tells you that having a child changes everything... I never knew just how much...

What a ride this is.... wow...

And I'm free

Now I'm free
