31 weeks today!

Your baby continues to grow. Baby’s lungs and digestive tract are very near to being mature. Now that almost all of the major organs are functioning, growth will focus on maturing those organs and growing muscle mass and fat stores. Baby’s weight gain will exceed its growth in length from now on. He or she should more than double their weight again between now and birth. It weighs about 3.5 pounds (1.6kg), and crown to rump length is 11 inches (28cm). Its total length is 16.5 inches (42cm).
A loud noise near you may cause your little one to jump.

Baby may move to the rhythm of music. Studies with heart rates show that they may also prefer some types of music to others at this stage. The eyes can now completely open and the irises are now responsive to light, dilating and contracting as needed.

Week 31: What a week! Antibiotics, Home Renovations, Insomnia, and Sausages…

We decided to do some more “nesting” inspired things this week and put hardwood floors in the house. Then we decided to re-do the stair railings essentially building a new half wall. We got rid of the previous iron railing because I had visions of the little man sticking his head through on a daily basis and dropping toys and various items down the stairs.

The floors are absolutely amazing and make such a difference in the house and I am especially excited about the ease of cleaning. We have 3 Labradors and the hair gets to be a nightmare, the carpet was just a breeding ground for nasty things and I couldn’t picture my little guy crawling on the god forsaken carpet. So I am very happy to have this done!

On top of the massive amount of work required in home renovating I contracted a sinus infection. It kicked my butt! I finally broke down and was put on antibiotics which helped almost immediately but oddly enough after 5 days on the antibiotics I ended up with an ear infection. How are these things possible?? It was so painful I couldn’t even chew food on the left side. So needless to say it has been quite the week and I am worn out!

Another theme of this week has been insomnia. I just can’t seem to stay asleep… I’m sure the waking to pee 8, YES EIGHT, times a night is not helping. So all of this is adding to my exhaustion during the day. I am also noticing that the swelling is sure picking up. I can no longer get my rings on and off of my fingers, they are swollen and hideous! And the poor tootsies look like sausages too.

I keep telling people that some weeks are better than others, and obviously this week was one of the worst so far. But we got a lot accomplished and now we’re on to another week, just 8 to go! Read more!

30 weeks down!

(30 weeks at the Brad Paisley concert!)
How far along?
30 Weeks

Total Weight Gain? well it's hard to say what my starting point is but from my pre-pregnancy weight I am up 9 pounds I guess... wow :)

How big is baby? He was at 3 lbs. 9 oz yesterday which is the 40th percentile

Gender: BOY

Maternity Clothes? I wear mostly maternity pants and non-maternity tops except for a handful of things

Morning Sickness? Yep it's still here... it came back at about 28 weeks :( but this hasn't been a horrible week for it, only a couple of days of nausea

Mood Swings? Not really, I'm still my usual self although I will say my patience with strangers is a wearing little thinner!

Buy anything for baby this week? We got a lot! Basically finishing up the registry. We got the pack n play, the swing, the angelcare monitor, our baby sign language kit, shopping cart cover, Moby wrap, car seat protector, lots of little things. All that's left is the gate and tub!

Stretch Marks? Still just on my boobs :( but that's ok I guess

Sleep? Still not going too well, I'm up every 2 hours to pee and then my back pain is so bad that it keeps me uncomfortable all night so I spend most days pretty tired and drowsy

Best Moment This Week: Checking in on the boy, he's doing great!! And putting together the pack n play and the swing... can't wait to see him in them!

Worst Moment This Week: Ugh a sinus infection, it kicked my butt until I recently got my antibiotics, luckily avoided the urgent care but it was close yuck!

Movement: Yep all the time, he likes to tuck his feet up under my ribs and stick his head and butt into my hip sockets ouch!

Cravings: hmmm I guess BLT's this week, that was sooo good!

Labor Signs: No real labor pains, just braxton hicks off and on daily

Belly Button In or Out? It's a tiny outtie now, thought I'd hate that but it's kinda cute

What I miss? Sleeping on my stomach and enjoying beer, it tastes awful to me now (when I steal sips of hubby's)

What I am looking forward to? Meeting my son and feeling back to normal again...

Weekly Wisdom: Hmmm I dont have anything too creative this week, I'm just trying to plod along to the finish line

Milestones: Well 30 weeks sounds like a LOT, only 10 to go and really he can come any time he wants to after 37 so it is coming FAST :)

Week 29: Oh my aching joints & nausea back again?

So this week I feel like my joints are all falling apart! I have horrible joint pain in various parts of the body, my right knee is so bad that I broke down and bought a knee brace. Then we have my hands, not the wrists, but the center of my hands… they just ache like arthritis. And equally as annoying is my back, I get a pinching sensation on some nerves and it literally makes it unbearable to put weight on my legs or stand up straight. I feel like a decrepit hunchback, how ridiculous is THAT! Obviously it gets worse when I spend a lot of time on my feet so I’m really trying to be conscious of that but when you’re busy you’re busy… my heating pad has helped a lot, wish I had some sort of portable one!

Another fun thing is the nausea that has returned… what is going on in this body, it’s like my old body was abducted! So I almost feel like I’ve teleported back to the first trimester enjoying morning sickness-like nausea on a near daily basis. It started at my glucose screening appointment but I have had a similar feeling daily since that appointment. The nausea comes and goes and is accompanied by an extreme fatigue. So I guess I’m back to trying to find time to take a nap here and there to avoid complete exhaustion. And apparently, it’s all “normal” and nausea and fatigue commonly return in the 3rd trimester.

I’m convinced this is the doctor’s answer to everything, “Oh you’re pregnant, it can happen” and we have no other way of dealing with these ongoing issues so we just dumbly shake our heads like “OK!” and keep treading along. Ugh it gets so frustrating at times.

So the motto of this week is Zantac, knee braces, heating pads, and sleep… what’s next?

More goodies for little "H"

I finally got the baskets for the nursery changing table, couldn't have found a more perfect option and Michaels had their baskets 40% off! I also got some baskets to organize all of his goodies in the closet, they have chalkboard labels on them which is great to keep track of everything. They look like these ones at Pottery Barn but the baskets I purchased are blue and green

And here's some of the most recent goodies I've found, a light switch cover with a scene from Where The Wild Things are painted on it. And I've started collecting the stuffed animal collection that goes with the book as well. So cute!

Diaper Bag!!

So my diaper bag is on it's way!! After receiving two awesome diaper bags at our shower I decided to trade them both in for a much more expensive one that I had on my "dream" list. It worked out perfectly and my gorgeous bag is now on it's way to the front door, can't wait.

It has received amazing reviews. It has 14 pockets and was the highest recommended bag as far as organization goes, and as you can see it is equally as nice looking. It has an antimicrobial lining in the pockets to keep messes sanitary. It has hooks to clip right onto the stroller so you can be hands free. Those are the highlights.

So it was a perfect blend of what I need to carry my own things and baby's things since I obviously won't be carrying a purse AND a diaper bag. I can't wait to see it in person! Read more!

Week 28: Heartburn Monster Returns! But I love food nonetheless.

Yuck the heartburn has returned with avengence! I actually have had to break down and buy some Zantac extra strength to manage it. I get this awful feeling that someone is holding a lighter to my throat to the point that it makes my eyes water! It’s not so much a burning chest sensation but it’s all in my throat… horrible. And it doesn’t help that I seem to have to burp a lot. Doesn’t that sound like fun, regurgitating stomach acid, yea not so much. According to the old wives tales, heartburn is supposed to indicate that the baby will have a lot of hair, I guess we’ll find out.

I have found a love of steak and A1 sauce… I could almost eat it every night but the steak MUST be medium rare and it must come with a bottle of A1. The A1 is pretty much horrible for the heartburn but I deal with it because it tastes sooo good! Surprisingly, I have had a lot of motivation to cook new meals and recipes for dinner every night. I love going grocery shopping and I go every day and pick out what we’ll eat that night. And hubby and I love to cook in the kitchen together so we’ve been having a good time cooking up a storm! Anything from tilapia filets and stuffed portabello mushrooms to fondue, raclette, king salmon skewers, and perogies…. Yumm. This baby will have no shortage of food variety at this house, we will NOT have a picky eater, he will have quite the pallet.

And unfortunately the soreness continues. Now I seem to be having joint issues, my knee in particular is in a lot of pain daily. Not quite sure what to do about it, putting weight on it hurts so standing walking and the like are not pleasant.

Week 27: Sore muscles, cute clothes, and Snoogle

So I discovered the Snoogle pregnancy pillow. Hubby felt bad for me after seeing me delirious all the time from not sleeping so he insisted that we go buy one. I had seen these before, kind of like a body pillow body wrap thing. I thought honestly that they were crap, you could just use multiple pillows to create the same effect and save yourself $50. However, I have to admit after trying it, it really does work! I had the most awful back pain and no amount of pillows was helping until the Snoogle arrived. Now I don’t know what I’d do without it! So that is now a recommendation I will give to other pregnant women, it’s worth the money, really. (And as you can see the hubby seems to love it too ha!)

My legs and back have continued to be sore. I feel like I either worked out for 11 hours straight or am extremely hungover from binge drinking the night away. Now obviously I can assure you neither of which are true so I’m left to wonder what the heck the deal is with these muscles. I have tried to up the water intake and potassium intake and stretch… none of which is really helping… so I suffer and complain to hubbs who usually takes pity on me and massages me.

Onto more exciting things, I did a little bit of shopping and this time I went the NON maternity route. I got some cute tee-dresses from Express and some leggings and I am finding this to be very comfortable and the compliments don’t hurt! It’s nice to feel stylish even with the belly. It is starting to become obvious that I am indeed pregnant, I have a tiny basketball now hooray! Daddy is also excited to have his diaper bag, a camo messenger from the Army Surplus store. It couldn’t be more perfect or more manly and he will appreciate having his own bag to carry instead of my girlie one J Read more!

Week 26: Rough week! Braxton Hicks, sleepless nights…

So this has been a pretty rough week! A LOT of sore muscles and achiness. Had a couple of migraines this week which is never fun… Sleeping has been a task this week that hasn’t gone well. I’ve had back to back nights of no sleeping mostly due to the fact that my back is killing me! And it’s not my lower back, it’s my upper back just below my shoulder blades. The only way to alleviate the back pain is to lay flat on my back which A: you are not supposed to do because it puts a lot of weight and pressure on major blood vessels and decreases blood flow to the baby and B: is horribly uncomfortable, it feels like I have a 20 lb bowling ball sitting on my stomach and gives me a head rush. SO needless to say the sleeping is becoming a chore.

Then we move on to what I’m calling Braxton Hicks contractions but I still haven’t quite decided if that’s what it is or not… Basically it started one day where I had a whole day of cramps, the WHOLE day. No rhythm or anything just a general crappy feeling all day. The next few days I had what feel like normal menstrual cramps off and on a handful of times that had a definite start and end point. And every other day or so I get the same thing, a painful cramp that lasts about 45 seconds and then goes away. Sometimes once a day, sometimes a couple, sometimes none. My problem is trying to define them… From most of my reading, Braxton Hicks contractions feel like an overall tightening of the stomach, they are a little rhythmic but come and go, and are not painful. Well I wouldn’t say that what I’m experiencing is a “tightening” at all… it just feels like a cramp?? And I wouldn’t call them excruciating but they certainly aren’t pleasant. Apparently I’m right at the time that they usually start so who knows. I’ve been told to call the doc if I have more than 4 in an hour which luckily has not happened. All the lovely things that come with your body preparing itself for labor! JOY! Read more!
